On 14 September 2025, Hyderabad faced extremely heavy rainfall, resulting in significant flooding in various low-lying areas, including Musheerabad. J. Dinesh Kumar, who was 32 years old, was carried away by floodwaters near a stormwater drain in Musheerabad. Despite thorough searches conducted over several days by government search and rescue officials, police, and disaster response teams, his body has not been found to date.
Dinesh is survived by his wife, Kalwala Rajamani, and their three-year-old son, Karthikeya. He was employed at a pest control company and also worked as a delivery agent and the family resided in a rented home. His wife, Rajamani was raised in an orphanage and has no family support or inheritance. In addition, Dinesh Kumar’s parents are elderly, very poor, and unable to work due to their health. They have no stable income and rely on others for their sustenance. They cannot provide support to the widow and her child.
Since Dinesh Kumar’s body was not recovered, government assistance is not forthcoming. And the absence of his remains has intensified the family’s trauma as they were not able to conduct his last rites.
With no extended family support, the only source of income lost and no regular income, the family is struggling to meet their basic needs, such as food, shelter, education for the child, and medical care. The child is half-orphaned without the security of his father.
