Financial Assistance for Single mother and Sole Support for Ailing Parents

NEED: Deepti, a young and single mother from Palakkad, who is also the only support for her ailing parents needs financial assistance for immediate needs of food, medicines and rent.

Deepti is a young woman from Palakkad who was abandoned by her husband and has a daughter, studying in Class 6. Despite her dire circumstances, she has chosen to stay with her ailing parents as their primary caregiver and support, instead of deserting them. Due to her parents’ medical condition of requiring continuous care, Deepti is unable to go out to an external site for work. This has left the family in extreme financial distress.

Currently their sole income is a small social security pension, which is not adequate to pay for rent, food and medicines. Through the generosity of the community, Deepti has been able to buy a small piece of land, and another social agency has promised to build a cabin house for them.

While this could help them for their future needs, they need urgent assistance for the outstanding rent, food and medicines. As immediate help, an amount of Rs.10,000/- will help the family pay for their current needs and move into a better situation of managing their everyday needs through the pension amount and a potential home-based livelihood means for Deepti.
