Mallamma is a 62-year-old domestic worker who earns a small income by working in nearby households. Despite her advanced age, she continues to work hard every day to support her family. She lives with her daughter J. Chandrakala (40 years) and her granddaughter Divya (19 years). Chandrakala has ‘dwarfism,’ a physical growth condition, and is very short in stature, which makes it difficult for her to go out and work regularly. Because of this limitation, she is unable to take up stable employment to support the family. Mallamma’s granddaughter Divya, aged 19, is a Special Needs person and requires constant care and attention. Due to her condition, she is unable to work or contribute financially to the family.

At present, the entire responsibility of supporting the family falls on Mallamma, who continues to work as a domestic worker despite her age. Her income is very limited and barely covers basic needs such as food, rent, and medical care for the family. Chandrakala has expressed a strong interest in starting a small vegetable vending business near her community. This type of livelihood would allow her to work from a nearby location without the need for heavy physical labour. Domestic workers and neighbours in the surrounding area have assured their support and are willing to buy vegetables from her regularly. She needs to set up her vegetable vending cart soon. The family lives in a vulnerable situation and struggles to meet daily expenses. However, they are determined to improve their livelihood and become more self-reliant.
